Privacy policy
Last updated September 30, 2026. The short version: we collect as little as we can, we don't sell or share it, there are no ads and no trackers, and you can ask us to delete it any time.
Swam Off Strong is a small independent game. This policy covers swamoffstrong.com, the game at game.swamoffstrong.com, and the emails we send. If anything here is unclear, write to info@swamoffstrong.com.
What we collect, and why
Beta sign-up
To play the beta you give us your name, your email address and, if you like, how you heard about Swam Off Strong. We use these to let you into the game, to see who's playing, and to contact you about the beta. We also keep the time you signed up and a short scrambled fragment of your IP address (a one-way hash, not the address itself) to spot spam sign-ups. A copy of each new sign-up is emailed to us.
Accounts and cloud saves
If you turn on cloud saves, you sign in with your email address: we email you a one-time code and link. We store your email address, when your account was made and when you last signed in, your saved game (your progress, catches, gear and settings) and which version of the game saved it. Sign-in codes are stored only in scrambled form and expire after 15 minutes. If you later choose a username for leaderboards, we'll store that too, and it will be shown publicly.
Newsletter
If you sign up for the newsletter, we store your email address, whether you've confirmed it, when you signed up, confirmed or unsubscribed, which form you used, and a scrambled fragment of your IP address (to stop abuse). You're only added after you click the confirm link we email you. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect right away. Newsletter sign-up is separate from the beta and from cloud saves: joining one doesn't sign you up for the others.
Email delivery records
We keep a short log of the emails our server sends (the address, what kind of email, and whether it went out) so we can fix delivery problems. It holds no passwords or codes and old entries are dropped as it fills.
Abuse protection
To stop floods of sign-ups and sign-in attempts we keep short-lived counters keyed to a scrambled version of your IP address. They're cleared within a few hours.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, our host's web servers record basic request details (such as IP address, browser type, the page asked for and the time) for security and to keep the site running. We don't use these to track you.
What's stored on your device
- Your game save. The game keeps your progress in your browser's local storage, on your device. It never leaves your device unless you turn on cloud saves.
sos_betacookie. Remembers that you've signed up for the beta, so the game opens. Lasts up to two years.sos_sesscookie. Keeps you signed in for cloud saves. Lasts up to a year, or until you sign out.- Small settings, such as when you dismissed the "add to home screen" hint.
These are all needed for the game to work. We don't use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and there are no third-party trackers on swamoffstrong.com.
Who else is involved
- Hostinger hosts our websites, database and email, and so stores the information above on our behalf.
- Google Fonts: the game loads its fonts from Google's servers, which means your browser contacts Google and shares your IP address with them when the game opens. (This website uses its own copy of its fonts and doesn't contact Google.)
We don't sell, rent or trade your information, and we don't share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
We keep your beta sign-up, account, saved game and newsletter record for as long as Swam Off Strong is running, or until you ask us to delete them. If you unsubscribe from the newsletter we keep a record that you unsubscribed, so we don't email you again by mistake, unless you ask us to delete it.
Your choices
- See or delete your data: email info@swamoffstrong.com from the address you used and we'll send you a copy or delete it, usually within a few days.
- Stop newsletter emails: use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter.
- Sign out: use the cloud save menu in the game. Clearing your browser's data removes the cookies and your local save.
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, the UK or California) you may have further rights over your information, including to correct it or to complain to a data protection authority. Write to us and we'll help.
Children
Swam Off Strong is a fishing game anyone can enjoy, but accounts, the beta sign-up and the newsletter aren't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us their details, email us and we'll delete them.
Keeping it safe
The sites use HTTPS. Passwords for our email and database are kept outside the website, sign-in codes and session tokens are stored only in scrambled form, and we collect as little as we can in the first place. No system is perfect, but we take care with what you trust us with.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and for anything significant we'll say so on this site or by email.
